Welcome To The Cove Chronicles

Elizabeth Winthrop Hallett - A very iconic figure in the early days of the pre-United States history (see sidebar for related links). After I married I became intrigued with my spouse's ancestor (there is a direct line to Elizabeth within the family). With great humility, I decided to borrow her family to root my fictitious tale with twin siblings I insert to facilitate my adventure. Their names are (in order of birth) William Matthias Hallett and Rebecca Elizabeth Hallett. From an early age they are both exuberant and brilliant minds. This often, more than not, served as a magnet for trouble.

When I thought of writing a book with a strong willed woman I looked to our past and Elizabeth was perfect. I do have to admit a small amount of guilt in toying with the Hallett line but in truth this woman so intrigued me (I wanted to root my story in the mainstream collective history) that she seemed the ideal connection to my modern day heroine. Like Elizabeth, my modern teen-aged girl is a head strong and clever protagonist. If you don't know her story I highly recommend you look into her past. You will find she was nearly 350 years before her time. This was a woman who owned land at a time when women were not allowed to do so. The way she cut a swath in history unlike any other woman.

I highly recommend reading a story about her life (it is a novel but the author ensured that the strong themes about her life were brilliantly captured). It is written by Anya Seaton and is entitled "The Winthrop Woman."

After researching Elizabeth I was inspired. That my grand-daughter shares that lineage with Elizabeth (as a true descendant) and is also an inspiration for the books (the title character is named after her) I knew I was on the right track. It just felt right.

As I find more sources about Elizabeth Hallett I will put some of my research and collected quotations about her on this page.

If there is any student out there that wants someone different to report about in school history class. Choose her. She will astound you with all she accomplished in her life.
